A 27-year-old truck driver was arrested in Otjiwarongo on Saturday for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol after his lorry collided with a police vehicle. The incident occurred around 10:30 am, according to police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the collision. However, the truck driver reportedly fled the scene but was eventually caught. Both drivers involved in the collision were tested for alcohol, and it was found that the truck driver was above the legal alcohol limit.

As a result of the incident, both vehicles sustained damage. The driver is now facing charges related to driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless or negligent driving, and attempting to evade justice. He is scheduled to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

This serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and the importance of obeying traffic laws to ensure the safety of all road users.
