The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism has taken action in response to a recent lion attack on the outskirts of Katima Mulilo. Following an incident where a man was attacked by two lions, the ministry has confirmed that one of the lions has been shot down while the other remains at large in the area.

Residents in the Chefuzwe area, as well as in Cowboy and Daily locations, reported sightings of the two roaming lions. The situation escalated when the lions began attacking livestock in the area, posing a threat to both residents and their animals. The ministry’s spokesperson, Romeo Muyunda, provided details on the situation, revealing that the male lion was responsible for injuring Likando Mambena in the recent attack. In response, authorities took action to eliminate the immediate threat by shooting down the male lion. Efforts are now underway to track and capture the remaining female lion, which managed to escape from the scene.

Muyunda emphasized the importance of community vigilance in light of the ongoing lion sightings. He urged residents to report any further sightings to ministry officials to ensure the safety of the community. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers posed by wildlife in the region and the need for proactive measures to mitigate conflicts between humans and animals.

As part of their efforts to keep the public informed, the ministry is providing updates on the situation and advising residents on how to stay safe in lion-prone areas. The response to the recent lion attacks highlights the importance of wildlife conservation and the delicate balance between human development and wildlife habitat.

In light of this incident, it is crucial for communities to remain vigilant and report any unusual wildlife activity to the relevant authorities. By working together and taking proactive measures, we can ensure the safety of both humans and wildlife in our shared environments.
