The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has recently made some key appointments, with Charles Siyauya taking on the role of general secretary for the next five years. Siyauya comes with an impressive background, holding a master’s degree in security and strategic studies and previously working at the University of Namibia. NFA president Robert Shimooshili announced this appointment at a media conference in Gobabis, highlighting that Siyauya is from the Zambezi region, making him the first official from that area to serve at this level within the NFA.
It is noted that no female candidates applied for the general secretary position. Additionally, the NFA has appointed Jacqueline Shipanga as the technical director, who will officially start on January 1, 2024. Shimooshili shared that the NFA has achieved 99% of the short-term targets set when they assumed office.
In terms of financials, the NFA has received N$15 million from the Confederation of African Football, with N$4.1 million earmarked for the Brave Warriors and the technical team. The remaining funds will be invested in enhancing sports infrastructure, particularly in preparation for the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations’ under-17 tournament that the NFA has been tasked to host later in the year.
This strategic allocation of funds demonstrates the NFA’s commitment to supporting its teams and developing sports infrastructure in Namibia. By investing in both the technical team and infrastructure, the NFA aims to improve the overall performance and competitiveness of Namibian football on the continental stage.
The appointment of Charles Siyauya and Jacqueline Shipanga signifies a new chapter for the NFA, with a focus on leadership and technical expertise to drive the organization forward. Siyauya’s background in security and strategic studies will bring a fresh perspective to the NFA’s operations, while Shipanga’s experience will be invaluable in shaping the technical direction of football development in Namibia.
As the NFA looks towards the future, these appointments signal a commitment to excellence and professionalism within the organization. With a strong leadership team in place, the NFA is well-positioned to achieve its long-term goals and continue to make a positive impact on football in Namibia.
