The Walvis Bay police are seeking the assistance of the public in tracking down the individuals responsible for the theft of copper in the town.

On Wednesday, approximately 1.2 tonnes of copper wire were stolen from overhead lines in Walvis Bay. The stolen wire, with a value of N$300,000, was taken around 23h50 near the C-14 road outside of Walvis Bay.

According to Erongo police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Tuyenikelao Tashiya, the suspects allegedly used a jaw saw to cut nine Erongo Regional Electricity Distributor powerline poles. As a result, they caused significant damage to the electrical infrastructure, leading to a blackout in various parts of Walvis Bay. This also resulted in limited access to essential communication services such as the internet and radio station frequencies.

Members of the public who have any information about the suspects or their whereabouts are urged to immediately contact Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu at 081 246 4757, Detective Chief Inspector Elias Orub at 081 260 5984, or their nearest police station.

The police are continuing their investigations into the theft of the copper wire in Walvis Bay.

It is crucial for the public to come forward with any information they may have to assist in apprehending the culprits and preventing further incidents of copper theft in the area.
