There is a myth that Namibia tells itself about education: that a certificate is proof of capability, and that more institutions, more enrolment, and more graduates will, in time, resolve unemployment.
Data no longer permits us this comfort. Namibia’s unemployment rate is 36.9%, the highest in the Southern African Development Community: youth unemployment is 44.4% even as the economy reports critical shortages across more than 70 occupations.
