The Erongo region recently held a memorial service in honour of President Hage Geingob at Swakopmund, where Erongo Governor Neville Andre encouraged Namibians to embody the late leader’s spirit and legacy. The event was marked by a sense of shock and grief over the passing of one of Africa’s and Namibia’s finest sons, with Andre paying tribute to Geingob’s extraordinary contributions to the nation.

Reflecting on Geingob’s life, Andre highlighted the late president’s role in steering the country through economic downturns, drought, and the Covid-19 pandemic. The governor urged Namibians to “awaken the Geingob within us” and strive towards a united country with shared prosperity and inclusivity. Chief Sagarias Seibeb of the Dâuredama Traditional Authority also delivered a tribute at the event, praising Geingob’s contributions to Namibia’s diverse cultural landscape and highlighting his commitment to ensuring no community was left behind.

Seibeb underscored Geingob’s dedication to the principle of ‘One Namibia, One Nation’, urging Namibians to continue building the ‘Namibian house’ and not be excluded from it by looking in the other direction.

Henties Bay Mayor Lewies Vermaak, representing the Republican Party, emphasized Geingob’s role as a president for all Namibians, promoting unity regardless of race, colour, tribe, or culture. He encouraged Namibians to remain united as Geingob would have wanted, referring to his vision of a Namibia where citizenship unites people.

Representatives from Namport and the mining sector also spoke at the memorial service, lauding Geingob’s positive impact on Namibia’s key economic sectors. They highlighted his contributions to the growth and development of these industries.

Overall, the memorial service served as a tribute to President Hage Geingob’s legacy and the impact he had on the nation. It was a time for reflection, remembrance, and a call to action for Namibians to continue embodying the values and principles that Geingob stood for. The event reinforced the importance of unity, inclusivity, and commitment to peace and prosperity in Namibia.

In conclusion, President Hage Geingob’s memory lives on in the hearts and minds of Namibians, inspiring them to strive towards a better future for the nation. May his legacy continue to guide and inspire the people of Namibia.
