Two individuals tragically lost their lives in a fatal car accident that occurred on the B2 road between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund at approximately 10:00 PM on Saturday. Deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu of the Erongo police department provided details of the incident, stating that a white vehicle carrying two individuals was traveling from Walvis Bay towards Swakopmund, while a black sedan with two occupants was traveling in the opposite direction from Swakopmund.
The driver of the black sedan, identified as 41-year-old Haindongo Nghidimokanya, reportedly lost control of the vehicle approximately 10 kilometers before entering Walvis Bay. This loss of control caused the sedan to veer into the oncoming traffic lane, resulting in a devastating side collision with the white vehicle. Sadly, both Nghidimokanya and his passenger, Tomas Ashitana, lost their lives in the accident.
The driver of the white vehicle, a 52-year-old individual, sustained injuries and is currently in stable condition. However, his 12-year-old son, who was also in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at Welwitschia Hospital in Walvis Bay. The families of both deceased individuals have been notified, and police investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
In the wake of this tragic incident, it is important to remember the importance of road safety and responsible driving. Accidents like these serve as a sobering reminder of the potential dangers that exist on our roads and the devastating impact they can have on individuals and families. It is crucial for all road users to exercise caution, follow traffic laws, and prioritize safety at all times when behind the wheel.
