State Minister for Finance, Amos Lugoloobi, recently expressed his gratitude for being retained in cabinet after a mini reshuffle by President Museveni, likening the experience to “passing through the eye of a needle.” Speaking at the annual Kabaka Birthday Run in Kayunga Town, Lugoloobi shared that his return to cabinet was not an easy feat, emphasizing the challenges he had to overcome.

Out of the three ministers who faced legal battles over alleged diversion of iron sheets meant for vulnerable individuals in the Karamoja Sub-region, Lugoloobi was the only one retained. His counterparts, Karamoja Affairs minister Mary Goretti Kitutu and Deputy Agnes Nandutu, lost their cabinet positions. Lugoloobi expressed his gratitude to President Museveni for retaining him, attributing his reappointment to being perceived as “trustworthy.”

The minister acknowledged the significance of his reappointment not only for himself but also for the constituents of Ntenjeru North, stating that being dropped from cabinet would imply their neglect. Despite facing corruption charges related to suspect property dealings, Lugoloobi remains steadfast in his commitment to serving the people and upholding trustworthiness in his role.

During his address in Kayunga, Lugoloobi provided reassurance to residents about the government’s plan to tarmac the Kayunga-Galilaaya Road. He disclosed that a Chinese firm had been contracted for the project and would soon finalize the road design. Additionally, he mentioned that residents affected by the construction would not receive compensation, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure development for the community.

The proposal to tarmac the 89-kilometer Kayunga-Galilaaya Road has been a long-standing issue, with residents in Bbaale constituency voicing their displeasure over the government’s failure to fulfill President Museveni’s 2011 pledge. Despite the challenges, Lugoloobi remains committed to delivering on government promises and improving infrastructure in the region.

The Kabaka Birthday Run, organized annually by Buganda Kingdom in districts under its monarchy, serves as a platform for promoting health and unity among communities. At this year’s event in Kayunga, District NRM chairman Moses Kalangwa urged residents to prioritize HIV/AIDS prevention, aligning with the theme of the run. He emphasized the importance of peace and unity for development, encouraging locals to work together towards a brighter future.

In conclusion, Amos Lugoloobi’s journey to retain his cabinet position underscores the complexities of political leadership and the resilience required to navigate challenging circumstances. His commitment to serving the people and prioritizing trustworthiness in governance reflects a dedication to upholding integrity and accountability in public office. As he continues to oversee finance matters and work towards infrastructure development, Lugoloobi’s presence in cabinet remains a testament to his ongoing efforts to support the needs of his constituents and contribute to the country’s growth.
