Nigerian musician Joeboy recently revealed that his determination to succeed in the music industry was fueled by his experience working at a sachet water factory during a university strike. The artist, who studied Human Resources and Personal Management, faced a challenging job market during his undergraduate days.

In a recent episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence Podcast, Joeboy shared how a three-month strike at his university led him to seek employment in order to make ends meet. Despite his efforts to secure a job in Lagos, he was unable to find employment for the entire duration of the strike. Eventually, he found work as a marketer at a pure water factory, an experience that fueled his determination to succeed in the music industry.

Citing the struggle to find employment during his university days, Joeboy admitted that he was afraid of not finding a lucrative job upon graduation. He described the experience as a triggering moment that motivated him to succeed in the music industry. “You really have to make sure you make it [in the music industry],” he told himself.

Reflecting on his journey, the singer described his success as a “miracle,” stating that some individuals had advised his former record label boss, Mr Eazi, not to sign him. Despite the initial skepticism, Joeboy eventually signed with Empawa and saw his music career take off.

Notably, Joeboy’s decision to pursue a career in music came as a surprise to his parents, who did not anticipate his choice. However, the artist’s determination and perseverance have led him to establish his own record label, Young Legend, after departing from Empawa. He expressed confidence in his current label deal, describing it as “the best label deal in Afrobeats history in Nigeria.”

Joeboy’s story serves as an inspiration to aspiring musicians and individuals facing challenges in pursuit of their dreams. His determination and willingness to persevere in the face of adversity have propelled him to success in the music industry. Despite the initial obstacles he encountered, Joeboy’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience and self-belief.
