The leadership of Musicians’ Organisation Global (MUSIGLO) has introduced a Solidarity Fund in December 2023, which has been well-received by its members. This fund was established with the aim of providing a sense of unity, promoting understanding, and encouraging members to support each other during financial difficulties that may arise, affecting both young and seasoned musicians within the organization.
MUSIGLO has taken steps to ensure the efficient management of the Solidarity Fund, having hired specialists and implemented an organized administrative framework from its inception. In addition to the Solidarity Fund, the organization has also implemented various welfare packages, including a Pension Scheme designed to secure the financial future and ensure a comfortable retirement for its members.
In an interview with Accra FM, the president and founder of MUSIGLO, Mrs. Deborah Freeman, emphasized the importance of the Solidarity Fund in supporting members’ welfare and providing assistance during challenging times. She highlighted the organization’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and probity in the distribution of funds to recipients to prevent well-known musicians from facing poverty in their later years.
Mrs. Freeman also mentioned that MUSIGLO’s welfare programs aim to assist emerging musicians who may not have the resources to record and market their music effectively. Members are required to contribute a certain amount to their individual Solidarity and Pension accounts in exchange for access to additional benefits provided by the organization.
The National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) and Peoples Pension Trust (PPT) oversee the Pension Plan introduced by MUSIGLO, ensuring that members’ retirement funds are managed and distributed responsibly. Mrs. Deborah Freeman reaffirmed her dedication to improving the working and living standards of members, leveraging her expertise in the business field to support Ghanaian musicians in navigating the industry.
She extended an invitation to musicians, both local and foreign, to join MUSIGLO and benefit from the organization’s advocacy for their socioeconomic rights and welfare. By uniting under the umbrella of MUSIGLO, musicians can access valuable resources and support systems that aim to uplift and empower members throughout their careers.
As MUSIGLO continues to expand its reach and influence within the music industry, the organization remains committed to fostering a community of support, unity, and empowerment for all its members. Through initiatives like the Solidarity Fund and Pension Scheme, MUSIGLO strives to create a sustainable and inclusive environment that caters to the diverse needs of musicians across Ghana and beyond. Joining MUSIGLO offers musicians the opportunity to connect with a network of like-minded individuals, access essential resources, and secure their financial future in the ever-evolving music industry.
