Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa believes that he and his teammates have the ability to achieve anything they set their minds to at the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire. He expressed his gratitude to Nigerian football fans for their incredible support, which has contributed to the team’s success in reaching the semi-finals of the 2023 AFCON after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Angola in Abidjan.
Atalanta BC of Italy attacker Ademola Lookman scored the decisive goal for the Super Eagles in the 41st minute after a devastating break. FC Nantes winger Moses Simon skillfully bypassed Kialonda Gaspar and set up Lookman to score with a first-time left-footed finish. Despite facing a tough opponent, the Super Eagles displayed great resilience and fighting spirit, successfully defending their lead until the end of the game, much to the delight of Musa.
Musa expressed his appreciation for the fans’ support and emphasized the unity displayed during the recent Super Eagles of Nigeria vs. Angola match. He highlighted how football unites people from diverse tribes and religions and reflected on the shared passion evident in the songs, images, and videos circulating on social media. Musa called for the continuation of this unity, stating that together, they can achieve anything they set their minds to.
Despite his role as the Super Eagles captain, Musa has not yet played for Nigeria in Ivory Coast. However, coach Jose Peseiro has emphasized the attacker’s importance to the team. Musa has had limited playing time, featuring in four games for a total of 237 minutes since August 2023. Despite this, the 2013 AFCON winner has managed to score one goal for Sivasspor this season.
