Multilateral Cooperation: FAO Representative on the completion of the mission in Burkina Faso with the Burkinabe chief of diplomacy
Ouagadougou, March 20, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabe Abroad, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, received on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 19, Mr. Dauda Sau, Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Burkina Faso at the end of his mission.
After nearly five years in the country of upright men and with the right to retire, the FAO Resident Representative came to bid farewell to the Burkinabe diplomacy chief and exchange with him on the actions carried out by his organization in partnership with the Burkinabe government for the development of the rural sector, supporting the population in their resilience, especially in the context of combating insecurity.
“Our humanitarian assistance to support the population in producing food and earning income reaches more than five hundred thousand people per year. This is a very remarkable contribution,” said Mr. Dauda Sau. According to the FAO representative, the organization has also worked with Burkinabe authorities to focus on development.
Furthermore, a structured investment plan in the agri-food sector to achieve food sovereignty has been established by both parties. In terms of resource mobilization, FAO significantly contributed by mobilizing 87.5 percent of the targeted 93 million dollars, which is more than 56 billion CFA francs for the Country Programming Framework.
“We are finalizing the interim Country Programming Framework 2023-2025, with a budget of 57 million dollars, which is more than 34 billion CFA francs, and a quarter of these resources are already mobilized. Additionally, new projects will be launched soon,” stated the FAO representative.
He expressed satisfaction with his mission in Burkina Faso, with the wish that the country regains peace and stability. On his part, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré wished a beautiful and peaceful retirement to the FAO representative, expressing gratitude from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabe Abroad for the good collaboration with the UN agency.
He hopes to continue this collaboration through actions to strengthen food and nutritional security for the Burkinabe population.
