Global Citizen, in partnership with American rapper Kendrick Lamar and his partner at pgLang, Dave Free, is spearheading an initiative to establish an international touring circuit across the African continent. The announcement was made on 17 January at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, by Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo. Move Afrika: Ghana, which aims to drive economic investment in the Ghanaian entertainment industry, follows the success of Move Afrika: Rwanda.

Akufo-Addo expressed his excitement about the initiative, stating, “Global Citizen is known for leveraging live music events to engage youth while creating social and economic impact. We are delighted to join Rwanda in becoming the next destination for Global Citizen’s multi-year, multi-market pan-African tour and expect continued impact in the years ahead.”

Kendrick Lamar headlined the Kigali leg of the tour on 6 December, and while the date and line-up for the upcoming event in Accra have not been announced, a Ghana concert in 2022 featured artists such as Usher, SZA, Stormzy, and Tems.

pgLang also expressed their excitement about expanding their efforts to Ghana, stating, “We visited Accra for the first time in 2022 and really connected with the people and the culture. Accra will always be a special place for us and we are excited to work with Move Afrika and expand our efforts to Ghana.”

Rwandan President Paul Kagame congratulated Akufo-Addo for the partnership with Move Afrika and highlighted the impact of the inaugural Move Afrika concert in Kigali, emphasizing the importance of mentorship and support for African talent.

Global Citizen chief vision officer Kweku Mandela expressed his honor in bringing Move Afrika to Ghana, emphasizing the showcase of African creative talent and the lasting economic impact it will have across the continent.

The initiative aims to expand to five countries by 2025, with Kigali serving as Move Afrika’s anchor city until 2028. Global Citizen stated that Move Afrika is their latest effort to create job and entrepreneurship opportunities for the continent’s emerging generations through world-class live events.
