Morocco’s commitment to climate action highlighted in Geneva

The delegation that participated in this conference held in parallel to the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on the theme “Strengthening parliamentary action in the fight against climate change” emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment to international action in combating climate change and achieving sustainable development.

The delegation highlighted the continuous efforts made by the Kingdom since 1992, including the signing of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the implementation of several environmental and energy policies.

In this context, the delegation emphasized the efforts made by the Moroccan Parliament through the development of environmental legislation and the strengthening of parliamentary oversight of government policies related to climate.

Moroccan parliamentarians also emphasized the importance of international cooperation and exchange of expertise to effectively address the challenges of climate change in order to create a more sustainable and prosperous world for future generations.

During the general debate of the Assembly on the theme “parliamentary diplomacy: building bridges for peace and understanding”, the parliamentary delegation called for the promotion of peace and understanding among peoples to address the acute conflicts prevalent in the world.

In this regard, they emphasized the need to respect the sovereignty of states and to consolidate regional stability through political dialogue and international cooperation.

The delegation also highlighted the role of the Kingdom of Morocco in enhancing interfaith dialogue and combating climate change through its participation in pioneering international initiatives.

The parliamentary delegation participates in the work of all IPU bodies, including the Executive Committee, the Standing Committees, the Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians, the Middle East Committee, the Women Parliamentarians Forum, and the Young Parliamentarians Forum, which examine a number of important subjects related to peace and interreligious dialogue, equal opportunities, health, environmental protection, climate change, and artificial intelligence.

The delegation from the Moroccan Parliamentary Section, led by Deputy Ahmed Touizi (president of the Authenticity and Modernity Group-PAM), includes deputies Mustapha Reddad (National Rally of Independents Group-RNI), Omar Hejira (Istiqlal Party of Unity and Equality Group), Khdouj Slassi (Socialist Group – Opposition Ittihadi), councilor Kamal Aït Mik (RNI Group), and Najib El Khadi (Secretary General of the House of Representatives).
