Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui provided an update on the injuries sustained by two key players, Hakim Ziyech and Sofiane Boufal. Ziyech, who is on loan at Turkey side Galatasaray from Chelsea, suffered an ankle injury during the Zambia clash and has been unable to train since then. On the other hand, Boufal, a winger for Qatar outfit Al-Rayyan, sustained a muscular injury in training and has been ruled out of the tournament.
Regragui expressed concern about Ziyech’s injury, stating that the medical team is working hard to get him back on the pitch. However, he admitted that it is uncertain whether Ziyech will be available for future matches. Meanwhile, their opponents, Mamelodi Sundowns, are also dealing with injuries to Khuliso Mudau and Mothobi Mvala, who have not trained since their last match against Tunisia.
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos mentioned that a final decision on their fitness will be made after the evening training session. If the two players are unable to play, Thapelo Morena and Siyanda Xulu are potential replacements for Mudau and Mvala, respectively. The coaching staff will assess their condition and make the necessary adjustments to the lineup for upcoming matches. Both teams are facing challenges due to injuries, and the availability of key players will significantly impact their performances in the tournament.
