The event plans to organize two major innovations

The 3rd edition of “Morocco Chess Week” returns to Casablanca from May 17 to 19, 2024. Like in previous editions, various activities are planned including conferences and public events: the “Chess in the Park” festival, tournaments, popularization workshops, among others.

The “Morocco Chess Week” (MCW), a joint initiative of the Casablanca Stock Exchange, Casablanca Events & Animation, and the Royal Moroccan Chess Federation, returns from May 17 to 19, 2024 with a new edition. According to the organizers, the 2024 edition of MCW will feature, like previous editions, various activities, including conferences and public events: “Chess in the Park” festival, tournaments, popularization workshops, among others.

This year’s program includes two major innovations. The first is the “Casablanca Fide 100” festival organized in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), for which the city of Casablanca has been selected to represent Africa. “This celebration will be the occasion to welcome the Torch ceremony which travels around the world all year round and will be attended by many personalities from this ancient game, including a significant delegation from FIDE and several grandmasters from international and national levels.”

On this occasion, a significant event will be organized at the Arab League Park with several enriching activities for the public,” noted the organizers. The second is “Casablanca Chess”, a world-class tournament featuring four legendary champions. “These exceptional players have been invited to represent their continents. They are Vishy Anand for Asia, Bassem Amin for Africa, Hikaru Nakamura for America, and Magnus Carlsen for Europe.”

The chairperson of the interim committee of the FRME explained that “through this 3rd edition of Morocco Chess Week and by hosting in Casablanca the African celebrations of the FIDE centenary, we celebrate the passion for chess by involving all clubs and enthusiasts of this game throughout the Kingdom, while showcasing Morocco internationally. We are proud to contribute to the development of this intellectual sport and to host the world of chess in Morocco.” Organized for three years, Morocco Chess Week works to promote chess in all its dimensions, for the young and the old, capitalizing on the significant interest generated by this ancient game.
