The question of “The family and the foundations of the welfare state” was at the heart of the 3rd Congress of rniste Women, held on Saturday in Marrakech, at the initiative of the National Federation of Women of the National Rally of Independents (RNI).
Marked by the presence of the president of the RNI and head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, as well as members of the political bureau and party militants, alongside African officials from Mauritania, Nigeria, and Niger, as well as from Europe and Canada, the congress takes place alongside the strategic projects aimed at improving the situation of the family and women.
In a speech during the plenary session, the member of the political bureau of the party and president of the regional association of rniste Women of Marrakech-Safi, Meriem Rmili, indicated that this meeting is an opportunity to highlight the efforts and programs implemented in order to establish the foundations of the welfare state, in accordance with the Royal directions and as part of the government’s efforts to consolidate the bases of overall development, “an issue of crucial importance for a sustainable future for all.”
In this sense, she emphasized the party’s position on the importance of prioritizing future generations, considered as the pillar of the future, noting that this objective can only be achieved by giving special attention to women and ensuring their empowerment in all areas, so that they can be active partners in the construction of a modern and progressive Morocco.
On her part, the president of the National Federation of rniste Women, Amina Benkhadra, noted that the choice of the theme of this congress is in line with the current context, marked by the government’s commitment to implementing major development projects in order to establish the foundations of the welfare state.
“In the context of the Kingdom’s dynamic to strengthen the foundations of the welfare state, the family has received special attention and has been at the center of government concerns, in accordance with the Royal instructions of HM King Mohammed VI,” she noted, adding that the Federation focused its attention during this congress on adopting family issues and its components in the welfare state.
She also emphasized the Federation’s continued commitment to accompany this dynamic so that women contribute, alongside men, to the building of a Morocco of dignity and progress under the enlightened leadership of HM the King, given that His Majesty has always attached great importance to supporting women and protecting the family.
Furthermore, Mrs. Benkhadra highlighted the contribution of RNI in the societal debate aimed at improving the situation of women in all aspects of life, formulating its proposals with an approach that makes the family the solid pillar of society and the home for all its members, in a framework of balance and cohesion.
“Through this meeting, the Federation aims to highlight and recognize the efforts made by all government components during the first half of the government’s term, in implementing structural reforms and important development projects, in accordance with the Royal directions, thus placing the Moroccan family at the center of their concerns,” she continued.
In turn, the vice-president of the women’s branch of the Progressive Party in Nigeria (APC), Bello Zainab Ibrahim, discussed the evolution of women’s political participation in her country, highlighting the need to introduce more mechanisms to expand this participation and allow women to access decision-making and leadership positions.
Fourera Sotty Maïga, from the Movement of Women for the Protection of the Homeland in Niger, emphasized the active role of women in contributing to political stability and conflict resolution in countries, calling for further empowerment of women in politics, economy, and society in general.
She also highlighted the importance of sharing experiences among the party bodies of African countries to promote the status of women in all areas and reinforce their political participation.
The president of the Mauritanian Federation of Regions, Fatimatou Mint Abdel Malick, declared that the choice of the theme of this congress reflects a deep understanding of the link between building a family on solid foundations and strengthening the social cohesion of the state and its development, considering the family as the foundation of any community project aiming for success.
Abdel Malick also President of the region of Nouakchott, then discussed the efforts made by the Mauritanian authorities to establish the principle of equality between women and men, as well as the development of plans, programs, and strategies aiming for the economic, political, and social empowerment of women.
At the end of this session, Mustapha Baitas, member of the political bureau of the RNI, delegate minister in charge of relations with parliament and government spokesperson, emphasized that the third edition of the Congress of rniste Women offers a favorable opportunity to engage in an authentic, in-depth, serious, and responsible debate on urgent issues concerning women, positioning the Kingdom as a pioneer in these bold and courageous discussions.
He affirmed that the party “will maintain its commitment to the development process,” highlighting the responsibility that lies with the elected officials to adhere to the enlightened vision of the Sovereign.
This meeting was marked by the presentation of an institutional film highlighting the achievements made in favor of the family and society during the first half of the government’s term.
The program also included workshops on the topics “The educational system and its role in improving the situation of women,” “The generalization of social protection and the strengthening of the national health system,” “Direct social assistance as a cornerstone of preserving family dignity,” “The importance of women’s involvement in politics as an essential foundation for establishing the welfare state,” and “Social and solidarity economy as a powerful lever to face crises.”
