The highly anticipated Caftan 2024 is back with a new edition, placed under the sign of renewal. Indeed, caftan lovers will have the pleasure of discovering the latest creations of renowned stylists in Marrakech and admiring the majestic embroidery of the Moroccan caftan. And that’s not all. Throughout the week of May 9 to 12, various events will be on the agenda telling the story of this traditional Moroccan garment through a dedicated museum and an exhibition reserved for the caftan industry.
The 24th edition of Caftan promises to be unforgettable. Under the theme “Morocco, Land of the Caftan,” this event is making a comeback with several novelties. Organized by the magazine Femmes du Maroc, this must-attend haute couture event aims to anchor the caftan in its inspirational land. As highlighted by its organizers during a press conference on April 8, 2024, Caftan Week pays a vibrant tribute to the multiple universes and ecosystems surrounding this iconic garment. For its comeback, Caftan has been reimagined, becoming Caftan Week to properly celebrate Moroccan heritage.
Expertise and transmission
This year, Caftan Week includes a Museum of Caftan History from Thursday to Sunday, May 12 at Dar El Bacha to showcase the authenticity of this ancestral garment. Collection pieces will be exhibited illustrating the journey and evolution of the caftan. And that’s not all. The caftan industry will be honored with an exhibition entirely dedicated to it. It will take place at Dar El Bacha during the same period. Indeed, the making of the caftan requires expertise passed down from generation to generation. This traditional garment is at the heart of a complex ecosystem of specialized and complementary professions. This exhibition of caftan industries will highlight this universe and millennia-old expertise. In a spirit of transmission and sharing, a Master class will take place alongside this Caftan Week on May 9. The aim is to offer an opportunity for interaction and sharing of experience to aspiring creators. These sessions will be led by professionals who have proven themselves in various fashion-related fields. Participants include Mimia Leblanc, fine jewelry designer and Founder of the brand Mimia Leblanc, as well as Laila Aziz, Moroccan fashion designer and international fashion creator and Founder of the brand Kayat. These sessions will also feature the participation of Selma Benomar, founder of the brand Benomar Création and ambassador in the Middle East for the Moroccan caftan and self-taught fashion designer native of Tétouan, and Romeo, founder of Romeo Couture.
Promotion of young talents
On May 10, 2024, a runway show featuring young designers will take place. This event, which will occur on the eve of the grand Caftan 2024 designer show, will provide a platform for 8 designers with the chance to participate in the grand Caftan 2025 show. The organizers of this event reveal that the journey of these young talents will be broadcast in a special program on the channel 2M, to bring the general public closer to the backstage of this project and its culmination in a professional runway show. It should be noted that the selected participants have been followed for several weeks in a practical experience of creating unique pieces and preparing to showcase their creations for the expert jury in a dedicated runway show. In this regard, they have benefited from the guidance of Meryem Boussikouk, president of the National Association of Moroccan Fashion Designers.
A prestigious runway show in a new format
The iconic Caftan 2024 runway show will present exclusive collections from top Moroccan designers in line with the theme of this edition. This grand event, taking place on May 11, is designed, as emphasized by its organizers, to showcase Morocco and the richness of its heritage, highlight the creators, and define the Caftan trends of the year. In addition to international media and the Moroccan press, this event is expected to attract celebrities, particularly from the Arab world, to promote Moroccan cultural heritage. Furthermore, this edition will be marked by a new format. The Catwalk has been redesigned with the uninterrupted presentation of all collections, followed by an exclusive musical program. A unique concept is planned for this year’s runway show at Golf Maaden. Among the new features, the organizers have introduced a Red Carpet, fashion stops, and an original welcome experience. For this edition, the organizers have enlisted architect Toni Breiss.
