The Philharmonic Choir of Morocco will perform from March 21st to March 23rd in Casablanca, Rabat, and Meknes. They will take the audience on a lyrical journey around the world, highlighting musical diversity across the globe.

The Philharmonic Choir of Morocco (CPM), under the auspices of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Morocco (OPM), invites the public on an a cappella world tour. They are set to embark on a Ramadan tour from March 21st to 23rd in Casablanca, Rabat, and Meknes, where they will perform several musical pieces. The organizers state, “Country by country ballad, to the rhythm and colors of music from the five continents, the Philharmonic Choir of Morocco will take you on a lyrical journey around the world, showcasing musical diversity across the globe! Gospel, African chants, Italian tarantellas, or traditional Moroccan music, all sung in chorus.”

During this event, the CPM will be led by Ivan Yohan. It is worth noting that the Philharmonic Choir of Morocco was created at the initiative of the Ténor Foundation for Culture as a regular formation attached to the Philharmonic Orchestra of Morocco. While having its own repertoire and independent music season, the choir contributes to enriching the symphonic repertoire of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Morocco. It comprises over forty semi-professional choristers with a solid training acquired in various national and international conservatories. Beyond their training, they mainly share a passion for singing and polyphony.

The choristers have had the opportunity to collaborate with internationally renowned conductors such as Michel Piquemal, Olivier Holt, Oleg Reshetkin, Benoît Girault, Bruno Membrey… In January 2016, the Philharmonic Choir of Morocco performed with the Maghreb Philharmonic Orchestra in Verdi’s Requiem alongside the Vittoria Regional Choir of Ile-de-France, under the baton of Michel Piquemal. The Philharmonic Choir of Morocco gave a performance at the Saint-Eustache Church in Paris, marking its strong willingness to open up internationally. In March 2019, the formation performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Morocco in front of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Pope Francis, interpreting an arrangement of Caccini’s Ave Maria on the occasion of the papal visit.

During this performance, the three monotheistic religions were celebrated to promote an image of tolerance, peace, dialogue, and respect between the two religions. It is worth noting that the tour is organized in partnership with the Italian Embassy in Morocco, the Italian Cultural Institute in Rabat, and the Ténor Foundation for Culture, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the prefecture of Meknes, and the Casablanca-Settat region.
