The National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) announced on Tuesday the launch of the operation to identify sheep and goats destined for Aïd Al-Adha 1445 (2024) throughout the national territory. Launched under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development and Forestry, and carried out free of charge for all fattening breeders, this operation carried out in partnership with the National Sheep and Goat Association (ANOC), consists of placing a yellow color ear tag on one of the animal’s ears, which bears a unique serial number for each animal, along with the mention “عيد الاضحى”, ONSSA said in a statement. This identification allows citizens to acquire traced animals, facilitating their tracking in case of need, the same source emphasizes. In addition to this operation and approaching Aïd Al-Adha, ONSSA reinforces the control and monitoring of preparations for this event, including the control of the quality of drinking water, animal feed, medicines used in farms and fattening units, as well as the disposal of poultry waste, which is conditioned by obtaining a permit from ONSSA veterinary services to track their traceability. It is also worth mentioning that the monitoring of health status is constantly ensured by ONSSA veterinary services throughout the national territory, in close collaboration with mandated sanitary veterinarians and with the support of local authorities. On the occasion of Aïd Al-Adha 1444 (2023), approximately 6.8 million heads of sheep and goats were identified, the statement recalls.
