The Cervantes Institute in Casablanca hosts the Nights of Ramadan, an event that offers three major groups of ancient, spiritual, and Andalusian music.

The Cervantes Institute in Casablanca celebrates the sacred month of Ramadan and organizes “The Nights of Ramadan.” An event designed by the Spanish Embassy in Morocco and the Cervantes Institutes of Morocco to highlight “the fruitful intercultural dialogue that has marked the history of relations between Spain and Morocco.” According to the organizers, this event offers a series of eleven concerts that will take place in six cities, from March 6 to April 3. Thus, at the Cervantes Institute in Casablanca, the series will bring together three major groups of ancient, spiritual, and Andalusian music. The first concert will be given by Taracea on Wednesday, March 20.

This will offer a repertoire focusing on pilgrimages with detours to Saint James. The audience will have the opportunity to discover traditional songs, sacred and secular music that blend with modern sounds to create a varied and unorthodox travelogue. The group consists of Isabel Martín (voice and percussion), Rainer Seiferth (vihuela), Belén Nieto (flute), and Miguel Rodrigáñez (double bass). The second concert will be given by the Andalusian music ensemble Dar Al Ala on Wednesday, March 27. It is an orchestra made up of music lovers and enthusiasts of Andalusian music in Casablanca, formed with the creation of the Dar Al Ala Museum in 2011 in the Habous district.

It is an old house that has been restored and transformed into a museum. Every day, visitors come, and every Thursday, music lovers and enthusiasts of Andalusian music attend and participate in concerts organized by the association. Thus, Dar Al Ala and its music ensemble contribute to the preservation and perpetuation of this Arab-Andalusian musical heritage.

The third concert will take place on Monday, April 1. It will be presented by Badieh, a group of musicians who explore melodies ranging from traditional Castilian music to Andalusian music, through ancient Sufi chants from Iran and Afghanistan. Please note that these concerts will take place at the Cervantes Institute theater in Casablanca, at 22h, with free admission subject to availability.
