The new President of Senegal, Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, received on Tuesday in Diamniadio near Dakar a Moroccan delegation, led by the Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, who represented His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, at the ceremony of his inauguration.
This meeting, attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, took place on the sidelines of the swearing-in and installation ceremony of President-elect Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
During this meeting, the Moroccan delegation conveyed the congratulations of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the President of Senegal on the occasion of his inauguration, as well as His wishes for prosperity and progress to the Senegalese people.
The meeting took place in the presence of His Majesty’s Ambassador to Dakar, Mr. Hassan Naciri.
The visit of Mr. Akhannouch to Senegal, accompanied by Mr. Nasser Bourita, comes on Very High Instructions from His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Glorify Him, following the invitation extended by the newly elected President of Senegal to the Sovereign to participate in the inauguration ceremony.
Apart from the leaders of the sub-region, His Majesty King Mohammed VI is the only Head of State to have received an invitation to attend this ceremony, which once again reflects the depth of the unbreakable bonds of brotherhood, solidarity, and mutual respect between Morocco and Senegal.
This also demonstrates the depth of an exceptional and multidimensional partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal in the political, economic, cultural, social, and spiritual fields.
The swearing-in and installation ceremony of the new Senegalese president took place in the presence of several Heads of State and presidents of the commissions of the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA).
Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who won the presidential election on March 24 in the first round with 54.28% of the votes, far ahead of candidate Amadou Ba (35.79%), is the fifth president of Senegal since the country gained independence in 1960.
