The head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, inaugurated on Thursday the Moroccan Football Museum at the headquarters of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) in Maâmoura (near Salé).
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Abdellatif Miraoui, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Fouzi Lakjaa, president of the FRMF, and Mehdi Qotbi, president of the National Museum Foundation.
The ceremony also saw the presence of a host of national football stars from all generations, sports figures, and members of the FRMF’s board of directors.
The creation of this museum, which covers 2100 m2, reflects the care that King Mohammed VI takes in preserving the historical, civilizational, and sporting heritage of the Kingdom of Morocco.
On this occasion, Mr. Lakjaa stated in a press release that the inauguration of the Moroccan Football Museum, created in partnership with the National Museum Foundation, is “a contribution to preserving the national football memory and enhancing its historical capital.”
The importance of creating a museum that documents the memory and showcases the history of Moroccan football and its legends, clubs, and facilities is unanimous, emphasized the official.
Stating that this museum celebrates a glorious past and testifies to a present rich in achievements that make the Moroccan public proud, he praised this initiative that commemorates this precious heritage and passes it on to younger generations.
On his part, the curator of the Moroccan Football Museum, Zaid Ouakrim, stated in a similar statement that the museum’s permanent exhibition provides an overview of the rich history and highlights of Moroccan football through six spaces.
He noted that the first space highlights the “enlightened royal vision” and reveals a unique perspective, dedicated by three kings, who have made football a distinguished means of expression for the Moroccan people.
He stated that the other sections address important subjects in accordance with a global vision within exceptional spaces, namely the land of pioneers, the land of excellence, the gallery of celebrities, a hospitable land, and the land of passion.
Regarding the temporary exhibition, the official stated that it allows visitors to discover the paths of the national teams and clubs.
This museum sheds light on the history of national football from 1906, displaying photographs and football trophies in a way that allows everyone to learn about the achievements of Moroccan players.
