The perseverance of the national women’s football team has finally paid off against their Zambian counterparts. However, everything will be decided in the return match that will take place this Tuesday in Rabat.
The Moroccan women’s football team emerged victorious with a 2-1 win on the field of their Zambian counterparts on Friday in Ndola, in the first leg of the fourth and final round of African qualifications for the Olympic Games (Paris-2024). Zineb Redouani opened the scoring for the Lionesses of the Atlas (45+1′), while Rosella Ayane scored the winning goal in the very last minute (90+4′). Zambia’s goal was scored by Lushomo Mweemba (80′).
The return match will take place this Tuesday at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat, at 10:00 PM. The winner of this double confrontation between the Lionesses of the Atlas and the Copper Queens will secure a spot in the women’s football tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The winner will face the United States, Australia, and Germany in Group B. A draw will be enough for Morocco to qualify, as well as a defeat with a score of 0-1.
In the previous round, the national women’s team had the upper hand over their Tunisian counterparts, while Zambia qualified at the expense of Ghana. The Lionesses of the Atlas will aim to secure one of the two qualification spots for the upcoming Olympics reserved for the African continent. The other spot will be claimed by the winner of the match between Nigeria and South Africa.
