The iconic group UB40 will perform at the opening of the 17th edition of the Jazzablanca festival on Thursday, June 6 on the Casa Anfa stage. A legend of reggae pop, UB40 is one of the most influential British bands of all time. With over 100 million copies sold and more than 50 singles topping the British charts, UB40 members have captivated millions of people around the world.
Their unapologetic reggae, 60s ska, and Jamaican rocksteady have marked the history of music for over four decades. Jazzablanca’s audience will find them on the Casa Anfa stage and sing along to timeless hits such as “Kingston Town”, “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You”, “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight”, and the essential “Red Red Wine”.
Founded in 1978, UB40 celebrates its 45 years of existence this year with a new album and a world tour. Titled “UB45”, the album will be released on Friday, April 19. It includes seven new songs and seven new recordings of some of the group’s most iconic tracks. Despite the passing in 2021 of one of the founding leaders, Terence Wilson (aka Astro), the group remains united with guitarist/singer and co-founder, Robin Campbell, Jimmy Brown (drums), Earl Falconer (bass, vocals), Norman Hassan (percussion, trombone, vocals), and Martin Meredith (saxophone). The lineup has been strengthened since 2021 with Matt Doyle as the lead singer, taking over from Duncan Campbell.
