On the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day celebrated in the month of March, the cinema and human rights Thursdays welcome the Moroccan director Hicham Lasri for a special screening of his latest film “Moroccan Badass Girl” on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 9:30pm at the Renaissance cinema, in the presence of the director and the film’s team.

In a dark comedy of one hour and thirty minutes, Hicham once again depicts this generation of young people aspiring to dignity and freedom. He tells the story of a young woman in Casablanca, who wakes up on her thirtieth birthday with a new consciousness and a rejection of her social exploitation… “On the eve of her 30th birthday, Khadija Aka, nicknamed ‘Kathy’, wakes up one morning and discovers in a moment of solitude and lucidity that life has not been kind to her.

She realizes that she is exploited by her family and her fiancé. In an electrifying Casablanca, the film paints a portrait of a society through a woman who refuses to abandon herself and submit to social exploitation…,” reads the synopsis. The film will also be accessible on the digital cinema platform of the association https://armcdh.ma after registration, from March 28 to 30, 2024. As a reminder, Hicham Lasri is a Moroccan director, screenwriter, producer, and writer. His six feature films, “The End”, “They Are the Dogs”, “The Sea Is Behind”, “Starve Your Dog”, “Headbang Lullaby”, and “Jahilya” have been selected at the Cannes Film Festival, Berlinale, and Toronto Film Festival and have achieved critical success and numerous awards.
