On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, Safran Aircraft Engine Services Morocco (SAESM), a joint venture between Safran Aircraft Engines and Royal Air Maroc, inaugurated today the extension of its site in Nouaceur, located in the Mohammed V Airport area of Casablanca. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Mohammed ABDELJALIL, Moroccan Minister of Transport and Logistics, Hamid ADDOU, CEO of Royal Air Maroc, Jean-Paul ALARY, President of Safran Aircraft Engines, and Abdallah CHATER, Governor of the Nouaceur Province.

The two partners also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to continue the growth of the site, including an increase of 2,000 additional square meters in capacity and an increase in the number of maintenance operations from 70 to 100 shop visits per year by 2026. SAESM thereby strengthens its position as a center of excellence for the CFM56 engine range within Safran’s global maintenance and repair network, offering airlines a comprehensive range of services covering the entire maintenance process, from diagnosis to performance warranty testing.

Developed by Safran Aircraft Engines and GE Aerospace through their joint venture, the CFM56 engines power the majority of Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft families, with over 33,000 units delivered.

“We are inaugurating a new phase of our longstanding partnership with Safran today. Beyond the expansion of the Casablanca site, this agreement will strengthen our expertise in the aerospace industry. Royal Air Maroc is proud to contribute, alongside Safran, to the development of the aerospace industry in Morocco and further position Morocco in the global aerospace industry,” said Mr. Hamid ADDOU, CEO of Royal Air Maroc.

To support this development, the company also plans to recruit around a hundred people by 2026, bringing the total workforce to 350 people. They will rely on local academic partnerships supported by Royal Air Maroc and Safran Aircraft Engines for the development of MRO expertise in Morocco.

On his part, Jean-Paul ALARY, President of Safran Aircraft Engines, emphasized: “We are delighted to strengthen our partnership with Royal Air Maroc and benefit from a high-level skills ecosystem in Morocco adapted to our industrial challenges on the CFM56. Since its creation 25 years ago, SAESM has become a reference in our global MRO network in terms of operational excellence, innovation capacity, and carbon footprint reduction.”

To help reduce CO2 emissions from Safran’s facilities, the site is investing in installing photovoltaic panels on the roof, shades in the parking lot, with the goal of achieving a 30% renewable energy volume by 2025.
