These funds have benefited projects focused on regional economic development, inclusive and sustainable forest management, as well as support for small and medium enterprises, said the official during a press meeting dedicated to presenting the EIB results in Morocco in 2023.

He also noted that in 2023, the Bank also maintained a high level of disbursements, amounting to 161 million euros (M€) in both private and public sectors, to support businesses and economic activity in the public sector, bringing the total injections into the national economy to over 1.5 billion euros since 2020.

Furthermore, the EIB is actively exploring its support for post-earthquake reconstruction initiatives with an investment of one billion euros for the coming years, the official announced.

At the same time, according to Mr. Bassompierre, the Bank is considering a potential contribution of 500 M€ to the Mohammed VI Investment Fund (FM6I), aiming to promote green infrastructure projects in the private sector, business development, and innovation, with the announced commitments in 2023 being part of ongoing projects. “In 2023, the EIB’s commitment to Morocco has intensified and in Marrakech, during the World Bank Assemblies, we have firmly committed to post-earthquake reconstruction. We continue to support the Kingdom’s strategic ambitions for sustainable and inclusive development,” he said.

He continued: “Building on our collaboration with national authorities, the European Union delegation in Morocco, and all development partners, we target high-impact projects directly benefiting Moroccan citizens. Together, we are determined to build a greener and more prosperous future.”

This increased commitment of the EIB to Morocco in 2023 aligns perfectly with the ambitions of the EU’s “Global Gateway” strategy and the economic and investment plan of the new Mediterranean program launched in 2021.

By focusing on the development of sustainable and inclusive projects, the EIB, through EIB World, demonstrates its action towards the goals of inclusive growth and ecological transition in Morocco but also towards contributing to shared prosperity and greater resilience on a global scale.
