Morocco: Rachid Talbi Alami re-elected as President of the House of Representatives – Africa Links 24

Rachid Talbi Alami, from the National Rally of Independents (RNI), was re-elected on Friday as the president of the Chamber of Representatives for the remaining period of the current legislature, during a plenary session held at the opening of the second session of the 2023-2024 legislative year.

Mr. Talbi Alami, the candidate of the parliamentary majority, received 264 out of 324 votes, against 23 for his sole opponent Abdellah Bouanou, the president of the parliamentary group of the Justice and Development Party, with 37 invalid ballots recorded.

The election of the president of the Chamber of Representatives for the remainder of the parliamentary legislature (2021-2026) took place in accordance with the provisions of the Chamber’s internal rules, which state that the president is elected at the beginning of the legislature and then in the 3rd year, during the April session, for the remaining period of said legislature, in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution.
