A total of 4,609 infractions were found from January 1st to March 20th, following price control and food quality inspections carried out by central and local commissions, according to the Competition, Prices and Compensation Directorate of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Of these infractions, 794 resulted in warnings to the offenders, while 3,815 reports were drawn up and sent to the competent courts, the Directorate said in a statement on the holding of the 2nd meeting of the inter-ministerial commission responsible for monitoring supply, prices and control operations during Ramadan. These operations, conducted by central and local commissions chaired by the Ministry of the Interior at the prefecture and province levels, led to the inspection of 67,734 production, storage, wholesale and retail sales points, resulting in the seizure and destruction of 258.56 tonnes of products unfit for consumption or not complying with current regulations.

The Commission continues to work during Ramadan to monitor market developments, supply situations and prices, and to address all forms of fraud, monopoly, speculation, and price manipulation, the Directorate said.

The commission met under the chairmanship of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, with representatives from the ministries of Interior, Agriculture and Marine Fisheries, Industry and Commerce, Energy Transition, and relevant public institutions.
