The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, received on Monday in Rabat a delegation of members of the American Congress composed of six deputies representing the Republican and Democratic parties, accompanied by the Ambassador of the United States of America to Morocco, Puneet Talwar.

This visit is part of the examination of ways to strengthen the strategic relations between Morocco and the United States of America, under the leadership of the two Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, and American President Joe Biden, indicates a statement from the office of the Head of Government.

During this meeting, the two parties highlighted the various aspects of bilateral multisectoral cooperation, expressing their satisfaction with the positive evolution of the volume of trade, which has increased from 43.4 billion dirhams in 2021 to 68.9 billion dirhams currently, the statement notes.

The two parties also emphasized Morocco’s ability to serve as a platform for American investments in the African continent, within the framework of a mutually beneficial partnership.

During this audience, the Head of Government assured that the bilateral relations between Rabat and Washington are based on close coordination regarding a range of regional and international issues, highlighting Morocco’s leadership and its contribution to consolidating stability in the North Africa and Middle East region, the statement adds.

He also expressed the Kingdom’s appreciation for the position of the United States of America, which recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara at the end of 2020 and expressed their support for the autonomy plan as a serious, realistic, and credible solution.

The discussions also emphasized the longstanding relations between the two countries, since the signing of the Moroccan-American Treaty of Peace and Friendship in 1787, which is the oldest treaty signed by the United States with a third country, the statement adds.

This meeting took place in the presence of the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, and the Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, Convergence, and Evaluation of Public Policies, Mohcine Jazouli.
