Different coastal sweep and maritime patrol operations on Friday led to the interception of a total of 269 candidates for irregular migration who were planning to travel to the Canary Islands, according to a statement from the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).

During three separate sweep operations, conducted about ten kilometers southwest of the city of Tan-Tan, elements of the FAR responsible for coastal surveillance, in collaboration with sweep modules, thwarted three attempts of irregular migration, the statement said.

These operations resulted in the interception of 147 candidates for irregular migration, including 103 Sub-Saharan Africans and 44 Moroccans. On the same day, two combat units of the Royal Navy intercepted two boats, one 37 km west of Tan-Tan and the other 122 km southwest of Dakhla, during two separate maritime patrol operations, with 122 candidates for irregular migration on board, including 84 Sub-Saharan Africans and 38 Moroccans, the same source emphasized.

The intercepted individuals received necessary care before being handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for standard administrative procedures, the statement concluded.
