A Royal Navy offshore patrol vessel intercepted a canoe on Friday, 260 km southwest of the city of Dakhla, with 165 candidates for irregular migration on board, including 4 corpses.
These candidates, of sub-Saharan origin, set out to sea on March 6 and were planning to reach the Canary Islands, according to a statement from the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).
The rescued individuals received necessary care on board before being taken to the port of Dakhla and handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for the usual administrative procedures, the same source said, noting that the deceased bodies were transferred to the morgue at the Hassan II Hospital in Dakhla.
