Morocco: Increase in the value of marketed products by 2% by the end of March 2024 – Africa Links 24

The marketed products from coastal and artisanal fishing have recorded a 2% growth in terms of value to nearly 3 billion dirhams (MAD) during the first three months of 2024, according to the National Fisheries Office (ONP).

The weight of these products stood at 181,280 tons (T) during the same period, a decrease of 14% compared to 2023, as indicated by the ONP in its recent report on the statistics of coastal and artisanal fishing in Morocco.

By species, landings of shellfish, crustaceans, and pelagic fish have respectively decreased by 67% to 15 T, 30% to 1,799 T, and 21% to 126,056 T. Algae and white fish saw their landings decrease to 4,042 T and 25,455 T, respectively. Conversely, cephalopod landings have increased by 22% to 23,913 T.

In terms of port, a total of 4,363 T of coastal and artisanal fishing products were landed in Mediterranean port entrances by the end of March 2024, a decrease of 12% compared to the same period of the previous year. In terms of value, these ports recorded an 8% increase to 218.6 million dirhams (MDH).

Meanwhile, landings at ports located on the Atlantic have decreased by 14% to 176,917 T and increased in value by 1% to over 2.75 billion dirhams (MMDH).
