Everton (1st division) has been sanctioned by the English league with a deduction of two points in the standings for non-compliance with financial rules for the period ending in 2022-2023, the Liverpool club announced on Monday. Earlier in the season, the “Toffees” had already been penalized with a point deduction for a violation of the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules for the period ending in 2021-2022.
This ten-point deduction, announced in November, was later reduced to six on appeal in February.
In the standings, the new sanction sees the “Merseysiders”, currently managed by Sean Dyche, drop to sixteenth place in the English championship with 27 points, two more than the current first relegation place Luton Town (18th). The club has announced its intention to appeal.
The Everton Football Club, an institution in English football, has won the English championship nine times and has been playing in the top division continuously since 1954.
