From spiritual melodies to jazz, from Gnaoua to Melhoun…

One of the unmissable events organized by the French Institute of Morocco (IFM), the Nights of Ramadan are back from March 19th to April 3rd. The eighteenth edition of this event offers a vibrant national program.

The Nights of Ramadan are announcing their return for the 18th edition scheduled from March 19th to April 3rd, 2024. An essential event organized in 2007 by the French Institute in El Jadida and then extended to all branches of the IF in Morocco since 2012, the Nights of Ramadan will celebrate music in unison during the sacred month of Ramadan, a grand moment of spirituality and introspection. They indeed offer an enriched national program. “To highlight the richness and variety of the Moroccan and French artistic scenes, IF Morocco offers a vibrant national program that promises to take the audience on a captivating musical journey, exploring genres with enchanting sounds ranging from spiritual melodies to jazz, from Gnaoua to Melhoun, with Arab, Ottoman, and Andalusian sounds,” indicate the organizers.

In this context, the public will have the opportunity to see the young artist Nabyla Maan (Fes, Tetouan, Agadir, Tangier, and Oujda), Samir Aouad (in Casablanca, Marrakech, Al Hoceima, Essaouira, and Agadir), Kel Assouf and Imed Alibi (in Kenitra, El Jadida, and Essaouira), and Trans(E)-Shootin-Express (in Rabat, Meknes, and El Jadida). In addition to this national program, IF Morocco plans a local program in some branches of the Institute, led by local artists.

“Our goal is to encourage the production and dissemination of Moroccan projects and ensure them better visibility. This is a great opportunity for music enthusiasts to discover traditional music with global influences, original texts, and melodies,” they explain. To this end, the program features the Andalusian music of Meknes with Nizar El Jamali, Abdelhak Tikerouine, The Leila, Amal Nouman Trio + Malinga Trio, and the Nostalgisa Choir.

As a reminder, the Nights of Ramadan have brought together nearly 20,000 music enthusiasts over the years in a family-friendly and convivial atmosphere. They aim to showcase Moroccan and French music scenes by creating a space for intercultural and intergenerational exchange, as well as promoting universal values of dialogue, respect, tolerance, and sharing that characterize world music.
