On this unforgettable day of fierce struggle by the Moroccan people, the people of Casablanca defied the threats and intimidation by the French colonizer forces, who brutally attacked the populations with bloody operations targeting several neighborhoods in the city without any distinction between men, women, elderly, or children.

This unspeakable massacre reminds us of the sacrifices made by the inhabitants of Casablanca, who supported the actions of the resistance fighters and the liberation army to defend the constants and sacred values of the homeland.

Indeed, the governor of the Casablanca area, Philippe Boniface, a typical high-ranking official of a protectorate, mobilized the occupation forces against the citizens of the Ben Msik, Garage Allal, Mediouna, Derb El Kebir neighborhoods, and surrounding areas, engaging in a real massacre without any distinction between children, the elderly, or women. This barbaric intimidation operation resulted in hundreds of martyrs, wounded, and a large number of prisoners.

However, this savage repression, along with the arrests of Moroccan activists and nationalists, only strengthened the determination of the late HM Mohammed V.

The late King visited Casablanca the day after these tragic events, defying colonial power, to show support and sympathy to the families of the victims of colonial repression, indicating to the occupiers that the Throne and the people are united by strong bonds and a common will to end the protectorate.

HM the King also continued his visit to Tangier, which thwarted the colonial plans and gave him the opportunity to deliver the famous historic speech in Tangier, in which HM Mohammed V affirmed the Moroccan people’s desire for independence.

These bloody events also reinforced Moroccans’ patriotic sentiment and activism to end the occupation, as well as their support behind the Father of the Nation in the fight for independence.

The commemoration of the events of April 7, 1947, reflects the interest in the history of national resistance so that it remains alive in the collective memory of the Moroccan people, serving as a reference and an indelible memory for future generations.

It also pays tribute to the sacrifices made by Moroccan nationalists in general and Casablancans in particular for the independence and liberation of the country, celebrating the values of patriotism, heroism, bravery, and sacrifice that marked their struggle.

Commemorating these events is also a tribute to the former resistance fighters and patriots, acknowledging the sacrifices they made for the homeland, their sincere patriotism, and their total commitment to preserving and strengthening national unity.

Far from being intimidated, the resistance continued to grow until reaching its climax when the colonial authorities made their arbitrary and heinous decision on August 20, 1953, forcing the legitimate Sultan and the Illustrious Royal Family into exile, an odious act that sparked strong mobilization among Moroccans until the return of HM the King and his Illustrious family, and the proclamation of the independence of the Kingdom.

In commemoration of this historic event, the regional delegation of the High Commissioner for former resistance fighters and members of the liberation army plans to organize a series of events on the 7th of April square next Monday honoring the martyrs of the nation and the valiant heroes of independence, led by the late HM Mohammed V and his companion in the struggle, the late HM Hassan II, may God have mercy on their souls.

The program includes a meeting at the headquarters of the Al Fida-Mers Sultan district prefecture, as well as a tribute to former residents and members of the liberation army, in addition to providing financial assistance to their families.
