After a remarkable 2023 season, which marks a return to the highest level following a difficult 2022 year marked by a hip stress fracture that kept him away from sports for six months, Badr Siwane is embarking on the essential quest for points for his qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Currently, with 1,003 points on the scoreboard, the next three months will be crucial to secure his Olympic bib. Badr Siwane shares: “To ensure my qualification, I need to accumulate between 500 and 550 additional points. These are points that I couldn’t obtain due to my stress fracture.” The Moroccan athlete started this important period by participating in the Abu Dhabi race on Friday, March 8, a decisive step in his points collection. He will continue his journey to Ghana for the African Games, where points are also crucial for his Olympic qualification. Let us remember that Badr was the proud winner of the 2019 edition of the African Games in Rabat.
The competition in Ghana is scheduled for March 15 where he hopes to repeat the feat of 2019, namely winning his new African Games and earning the 380 points given to the winner (2nd place 350 points/ 3rd place 300 points). His road to qualification will not stop there, as he will then participate in the WorldCups in Wollongong and Chengdu at the end of April, then in Yokohama, Samarkand, and Cagliari in May, to complete his qualification quest. Badr emphasizes the importance of this period: “With the National Technical Director, we have optimized our strategy and identified precisely the points needed to obtain qualification. I have done several training camps with my coach, focusing particularly on running, to address my weaknesses and be in the best shape for my country. My goal is clear: to secure this qualification at all costs. I live like a monk, dedicated to my country, and to represent Moroccans as best as possible.” Badr Siwane, with his determination and commitment, embodies the spirit of perseverance and excellence.
He not only represents his country on the international stage but also serves as a source of inspiration for young athletes aspiring to reach the heights of world sport.
