Arsenal resisted pressure from Manchester City on Sunday at the reigning three-time champions, a result which however benefits Liverpool, the new leader of the Premier League.

Liverpool overcame Brighton (2-1) at Anfield to regain the top spot in the Premier League from Arsenal, who were dominated but managed to hold off Manchester City (0-0) at the home of the reigning champions. In the standings, Arsenal dropped to second place, two points behind the new leader Liverpool, but the Gunners have kept their title dream alive despite the pressure from the Etihad.

Last season, the Londoners slipped 4-1 at the home of Manchester City in April, a symbol of their impending decline in the final stretch.

After facing Liverpool (1-1) before the international break, Manchester City will host the last member of the Top 4, Aston Villa, on Wednesday, while Arsenal will welcome Luton, the bottom team.

For the title, “we are no longer the favorites,” at least “it no longer depends on us,” noted Bernardo Silva, although “a lot of things can happen” by the end of the season. In the early afternoon, the Reds had put pressure on their podium neighbors with a hard-fought but deserved victory against a Brighton team (2-1) that caused several problems for their opponents.
