The elements of national security, in coordination with customs services at the port of Tanger-Med, managed during the early hours of Saturday to thwart an attempt to traffic 1.2 tons of Chira which was aboard an international freight transport truck registered in Morocco.

A security source indicated that control operations at the port of Tanger-Med led to the seizure of this quantity of drugs, which was carefully hidden in slots built into the metal chassis of the truck, and the arrest of the driver, a 28-year-old Moroccan citizen.

The suspect was subjected to a judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office in order to identify all persons involved in this case and determine the possible national and international ramifications of this criminal activity, the same source added.

This case is part of the intense and ongoing security operations carried out by various security services in order to combat international drug trafficking.
