In detail, this program is initiated as part of the 25th edition of the Gnaoua and World Music Festival. Neila Tazi, president of A3 Communication and producer of the Festival, highlights the importance of this event as a global musical laboratory, welcoming international artists for a rhythmic fusion with the Maâlems Gnaoua. “This 25th edition marks the beginning of a promising partnership with Berklee, aiming to enrich the experience of musicians in the heart of the African continent,” she said. The program is intended for active musicians looking to deepen their skills as improvisers, and open to students from various musical backgrounds, from classical music to Gnaoua music, as well as pop, rock, and jazz. Therefore, candidates must be at least 18 years old at the start of the program and have at least two years of experience in practicing their main instruments.
Taught in English and translated into Arabic

Instruction will be provided by a team of artists and professors from Berklee including Ron Savage, Vice President and Executive Director, Viktorija Pilatovic, accomplished jazz singer, composer, and assistant professor, and Javier Vercher, associate professor in Berklee’s study abroad program in Valencia (Spain), among others. “I am excited to launch this new edition of the program on the Road at the Gnaoua and World Music Festival,” said Ron Savage, Vice President and Executive Director of Berklee College of Music. “I am always thrilled to meet talented young musicians from around the world. Being part of a festival that celebrates Gnaoua and world musicians makes this program a very special experience.” The “Berklee at Gnaoua and World Music Festival” program will take place from 10am to 5pm daily. “Participants will be guided on how to connect their own musical language with others, starting first by listening and understanding the musical concepts of their peers,” said Leo Blanco, academic director of the program. Instruction will be provided in English and translated into Arabic, ensuring a broad and inclusive educational experience.
Workshops on various themes
According to the organizers, the program highlights workshops on various themes such as “The composer as an improviser,” “Building your creative vocabulary,” and “Styles, grooves, and accompaniment labs.” A series of lectures will also explore the intersection between Gnaoua music and various contemporary genres. “There will also be discussions on technology and the business of music.
