The Al Koutoubia Mosque in Marrakech recently reopened to worshippers after the completion of the restoration work on this religious, cultural, and architectural emblem following the earthquake on September 8th. The reopening of the Koutoubia, along with several other mosques, comes on the order of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Amir Al-Mouminine, who has kindly ordered the opening of mosques built or renovated by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs. A statement from the ministry specified that there are 43 of these mosques, including 17 newly constructed and 24 restored, including Al Koutoubia, which suffered damage during the earthquake. The mosque, with its majestic 77-meter minaret, was built under the Almoravid Dynasty in 1120, before undergoing significant renovations starting in 1162 under the Almohad caliph Abu Youssef.
