The city of Meknes has just launched an extensive program for the rehabilitation and restoration of its historic walls surrounding the medina. Managed by the Agency for the Development and Rehabilitation of the Fez Medina (ADER-Fes), these projects aim to preserve the rich cultural and historical heritage and promote tourism in this imperial city. According to the terms of the tenders that have just been launched by ADER-Fes, the first project concerns the second phase of work on the Bab El Kazdir-Borj Kbich section, with an estimated budget ranging from 4.5 million dirhams (minimum cost) to 9 million dirhams (maximum cost).

The second project focuses on the rehabilitation of the Bab Bradiine-Bab Tizimi Sghira section, which is 521 meters long, with an estimated amount ranging from 4 to 8 million dirhams. As for the third project, it aims to restore the historic walls of Place El Mechouar, particularly the Borj El Aoudat section, with a budget estimated between 1.5 and 3.1 million dirhams. The planned works include setting up construction sites, shoring, necessary demolitions and stripping, archaeological excavations, sanitation, and site drainage.

Traditional masonry will also be restored, as well as coatings and waterproofing which will be redone using ancestral techniques. Beyond the restoration of the imposing walls, the Ismaili city is also undergoing a vast project to improve tourist circuits in the historic neighborhoods of Sekkakine, Mellah, and Cheikh El Kamel at the heart of the old medina.
