The project to interconnect the Sebou and Bouregreg Basins has allowed the transfer of 186 million cubic meters of water to the Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah dam until February 28, said the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, on Wednesday in Nouaceur.

Speaking at the opening of the board of directors meeting of the Bouregreg and Chaouia Hydraulic Basin Agency (ABHBC) for the year 2023, Mr. Baraka emphasized that this project has guaranteed the supply of drinking water to the Rabat-Casablanca coastal area and prevented a water shortage in this area since December 18.

Highlighting the exceptional climatic situation marked by low precipitation, which has had consequences on the supply of drinking water in this basin, the minister stated that the government is working at all levels to address the water issue, in line with the Royal directives in this field.

He also noted that these efforts take into account the specificities of the Casablanca-Settat region as the main economic hub of Morocco and the largest region in terms of population, which requires specific programs given the increasing pressure on its water resources and their future evolution.
