The 4th edition of the Morabeza Literary Festival – Cape Verde Book Festival will take place from the 19th to the 22nd of this month in Praia, bringing together renowned national and international writers. The highlight of this edition is the participation of Lauren Rose Teixeira, a Luso-British writer and daughter of a Cape Verdean.

The Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries presented the 4th edition of the festival on Wednesday, the 6th, in a press conference given by the president of the National Library Institute of Cape Verde, Matilde Santos, with the presence of the Gold partner, CVTelecom.

Matilde Santos stated that in this edition, the literary festival aims to continue its mission of promoting books, reading, and literacy through a program that integrates various sectors of culture. The event will gather writers, researchers, illustrators, and other experts in the field of literature for four days to discuss the importance of books and literacy in the cultural development of a country.

“There will be five thematic panels, including classics of Cape Verdean literature and the new generation of writers, the relevance of illustration in children’s and youth books, connections between the brain and reading, the purposes of children’s and youth books, and finally, creativity in the literary world,” she said.

In addition, the National Library Institute of Cape Verde, primary and secondary schools in Praia, the University of Cape Verde, the National Auditorium, and the Ildo Lobo Cultural Palace have scheduled a book fair, workshops, storytelling sessions, discussions, and a collection around books and literature.

Matilde Santos also announced the participation of Lauren Rose Teixeira, a Luso-British writer and daughter of a Cape Verdean, who at only 11 years old, is already making a mark in the literary profession.

In previous editions, the event took place in SĂ£o Vicente and Fogo islands and is now returning to Praia, where its first edition was held. “This year, we are only present in Praia for logistical reasons, not just for financial reasons, but because in terms of implementation itself, it is practical to do it here.”

The Administrator of CVTelecom, Francisco Almeida, expressed pride in sponsoring the event on such a special theme as the valorization and promotion of culture in Cape Verde.

“We all know that cultivating the act of reading today is a challenge, especially in the technological world we live in, and it is necessary to reconcile the practice of reading with the context of technologies so that the new generations of Cape Verdeans, students, and not only literary ones, can continue to promote the habit of culture and knowledge,” he emphasized.
