After the verdict was announced, Mr. George Kimani, brother of the deceased Monica, expressed his relief, stating, “At least we have come to the end of the long journey and the long wait for justice.” The discovery of Monica’s body in a bathtub was made by Mr. Kimani himself, and he conveyed his satisfaction with the judgment, emphasizing that they were happy with the verdict.

Mr. Kimani, who was a former college mate of Jowie, emphasized the lengthy duration of the legal proceedings, spanning six years, but also expressed contentment with the final judgment. Speaking on behalf of his family, he mentioned the immense relief they felt as justice had finally been served. Despite the ordeal, the family patiently awaited the delayed wheels of justice to turn, acknowledging the prolonged six-year process that this case had taken.

The sentencing, scheduled for March 8, 2024, is anticipated by the family, pending the receipt of the victim’s impact statement and a probation report on the convict. The exclusive interview with Mr. Kimani by the Nation occurred following the pronouncement by Justice Grace Nzioka, who determined that it was Jowie who murdered Monicah Kimani on September 19, 2018.

Notably, the police did not disclose the motive behind Jowie’s decision to end Monicah’s life, who was the managing director of Millypol General Trading Company Limited, based in Juba, South Sudan. The company was engaged in cleaning services and interior design, and had secured a tender to provide cleaning services to UAP Company Limited.

Reflecting on the six-year journey, Mr. Kimani conveyed the family’s hope to conclude the matter and move forward. He discussed the impact of the tragic loss of his sister and delineated her compassionate and hardworking nature. His late sister was hailed as a kind and selfless woman, revered for her generosity and the significant role she played in the family business.

While the family had managed to retrieve some of Monica’s belongings, they were still awaiting the possession of her Sh4 million house in Kiambu, nearly six years after her passing. Furthermore, they grappled with the realization that their sister’s trusting nature may have led to her downfall, as she welcomed everyone with her open heart, unknowingly blurring the line between friends and foes.

Monica, aged 28 at the time, met a tragic end on September 19, 2018, at her Lamuria Garden apartment in the Kilimani area in Nairobi. Following this cruel incident, TV journalist Jacque Maribe and Joseph Irungu, alias Jowie, were accused of her murder on October 15, 2018, marking the commencement of a lengthy legal battle.
