Mount Kenya University’s rugby team, known as the “MKU Tigers”, received a kit sponsorship from the Nation Media Group on Tuesday, with the hopes of enhancing their performance. The team, recognized as one of the fastest rising university teams, was presented with match uniforms by James Sogoti, Nation Media Group’s Group General Manager (Commercial Business). Sogoti lauded the long-standing cooperation between the two organizations and committed to partnering with the university in other areas of mutual interest.
The donations were received by MKU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi, who reiterated the university’s commitment to promoting sports among its students at all levels. Prof. Jaganyi also expressed his confidence in the partnership’s potential to produce future sports legends and discover young and talented athletes within the university.
Rugby is a popular game at MKU, and the university has produced notable players like Martin Owila, who represents Kenya’s national sevens team “Shujaa” and also plays for KCB. The university aims to create a society where sports are not only viewed as a recreational activity but also as a source of livelihood.
The MKU Tigers’ kit sponsorship by the Nation Media Group marks a commitment to support the growth of young talent and impact the surrounding community. Late last year, MKU emerged as the overall best university in sports in Kenya during the Kenya Universities Sports Association (KUSA) Championships, winning a total of 62 medals in various tournaments.
The partnership between Mount Kenya University and the Nation Media Group is not only beneficial for the development of sports but also for the exploration of other talents among students. The two institutions are working towards strengthening their existing partnership, which has already proven to be mutually beneficial.
In conclusion, the sponsorship represents a significant step in promoting sports and talent development at Mount Kenya University, with the support of the Nation Media Group playing a crucial role in realizing this goal.
