The President of the Comoros, Azali Assoumani, received a high-level delegation from the French military last Thursday, led by General Regis Colcombet, Director of Security and Defense Cooperation at the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. This strategic meeting was marked by in-depth discussions on strengthening military and security cooperation between the two nations.
The meeting, attended by the Minister of Interior, Mahmoud Fakridine, the Director of Cabinet for Defense, and the Chief of Staff of the National Army, highlighted the shared commitment to promoting training programs and developing the capacities of Comorian police and army officers.
General Colcombet and his delegation also discussed crucial issues with the Minister of Interior, such as combating illicit trafficking, enhancing coastal surveillance to prevent waste dumping and counter any form of trafficking, as well as supporting the military health service.
Special attention was given to training the country’s firefighters and managing migration flows, emphasizing the importance of close cooperation between the two countries to address common security challenges.
Following this fruitful meeting, General Colcombet expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received and underscored the significance of the meeting in strengthening bilateral relations between France and the Comoros. He also praised the progress already made in operational cooperation and mutual trust between the two nations, affirming their shared commitment to regional security and stability.
