Migrants who arrived on the shores of São Vicente have already left Cape Verde

The 15 African migrants who washed ashore on the island of São Vicente on the 4th and 6th of this month left Cabo Verde in the early hours of Sunday, the 17th, heading back to their countries of origin, according to the National Police.

“The National Police informs that, on the early hours of Sunday, March 17, the repatriation process of the 13 Malians, 01 Senegalese, and 01 Mauritanian who washed ashore in São Vicente between the 4th and 6th of March, on board two open-mouthed boats, known as pirogues, was completed,” reads the statement from the National Police.

It is important to remember that the first pirogue washed ashore on Viana beach, in the Calhau locality, with 05 survivors, but one of them passed away on the same day, leaving 04 survivors. The boat initially had 65 people on board, according to reports to the authorities.

As for the second pirogue, it washed ashore in the northern area of Baía das Gatas, with 11 survivors.

According to the National Police, it was determined that the two boats had departed from Mauritania, heading towards Europe, but got lost at sea, drifting for several days.
