Big Brother Naija reality star, Mercy Eke, opened up about her experience of not winning the show for the second time in a recent episode of Celebrity Quickies posted on comedian AY’s YouTube page. Eke, who won the ‘Pepper Dem’ season in 2019, lost the all-star edition to 22-year-old Ilebaye in 2023 and finished as the runner-up.

During the interview, Eke revealed that she believes she didn’t win the show for the second time because people were “allergic to winners.” She expressed that the first time she entered the Big Brother House, the experience was positive and the reception was lovely. However, on her second stint, she noticed a different attitude from people. According to Eke, there was a sentiment of not wanting her to win again because she had already won in the past.

“They were like, ‘She had that, she can’t have it again. She has this, she can’t have it again.’ That’s why I did not win for the second time because they are allergic to winners. They were like, ‘She is already rich, give others a chance,’” Eke said.

Despite not winning, Eke expressed that she still valued her second experience on the show and didn’t take anything away from it. She acknowledged that it gave her insight into the true nature of people and allowed her to see the reality of their reactions. She credited her understanding of people’s attitudes to the second time she participated in the show, emphasizing that it has been a learning experience for her.

Eke remarked, “This second experience, I loved it. I will not even take anything away from it because it made me see people for who they truly are. It can only be God’s doing because without this second experience I would not know a lot of things. I didn’t know that it is a crime to want to win again. But anyways, I am still a winner.”

The reality star’s comments shed light on the pressures and expectations that can come with participating in a competition like Big Brother Naija. Her resilience and positive outlook despite the challenges she faced during her second stint on the show showcase her strength of character.

Overall, Eke’s reflections on her experience provide insight into the complexities of competition, public perception, and the impact of success on an individual’s journey. Despite not emerging as the winner, she continues to demonstrate grace and gratitude, embodying the spirit of a true champion.
